Prestigious International River Prize

The Lake Eyre Basin Partnerships has taken out the prestigious, $300,000 International River Prize for 2015, beating the River Mur of Austria, and the River Jordan of Israel, Palestine and Jordan.

Not only was the Lake Eyre Basin nomination for a whole drainage basin rather than a single river, it was also the first time it history of the award where it recognised prevention rather than cure.

The Partnership is comprised of Desert Channels Queensland (DCQ), South Australian Arid Land NRM Board (SAAL), Territory NRM (NTNRM), the Lake Eyre Basin Community Advisory Committee (LEB CAC) and the LEB Scientific Advisory Committee (LEBSAP).  Pictured are, Richard Kingsford (LEBSAP), Clare Martin (NTNRM), Mark Kleinschmidt (DCQ) and Janet Brook (SAAL and LEBCAC) with the magnificent trophy inspired by the coolamon.
